Student associations

Bring YMAI to your school or university. Build a community around the questions and projects that interest you.

What is an association?

A YMAI Student Association is a school or university group affiliated with YMAI Jamaica. Students lead its activities; the school or university retains its own authority and rules.

Associations can host peer learning, practical projects, and discussions about AI and society. You do not need an existing AI club or advanced coding experience to propose one.

We’re recruiting our first associations. No school or university is currently listed as an approved association.

Start with the essentials

A student team

At least three interested students, with two named student organisers to share responsibility.

A staff adviser

A teacher or university staff member, institutional permission, and an appropriate route for safeguarding concerns.

A simple plan

One proposed activity, a way to welcome new members, and a commitment to the founding charter.

How to get started

  1. Send an introduction. Tell us your institution, your team, and your idea.
  2. Talk with your institution. Confirm permission, an adviser, meeting arrangements, and local requirements.
  3. Agree the association plan. YMAI Jamaica reviews the application and confirms recognition in writing.
  4. Welcome your first members. Start with a manageable activity and share a short update afterwards.

Use the YMAI name and logo publicly only after written recognition. Affiliation does not make an association a separate legal entity or authorise fundraising.

Propose a student association

For teachers and university staff

You can help students apply, advise a group, or propose a school workshop. We’ll discuss the practical and safeguarding arrangements before any activity goes ahead.
